With heavy hearts and profound sadness, we announce the passing of Mark Eliot Hellman, a beloved father, brother, uncle and friend, who passed away on March 5, 2026, at the age of 69. Born on April 11, 1956, in the university town of Tuscaloosa, Alabama, Mark was the cherished son of Joseph and Silvia Hellman, who predeceased him, along with his beloved son, Austin Eliot Hellman.
Mark's passions were as vibrant and diverse as his personality. He had a deep love for motorcycles, University of Alabama sports, and a unique bond with animals. Like his paternal grandmother Sarah, he had a green thumb, growing towering okra plants that reached an impressive 12 feet, providing an endless supply to grateful neighbors.
Mark's legacy lives on through his surviving sons, Brandon Hellman of Cornelius, NC, and Shane Hellman (wife Christine) of Denver, NC, who now carry forward his spirit and values, and his three wonderful granddaughters: Harley, Emerson and Holland. Mark shared a significant chapter of his life with his former wife, Amy Reinhard Hellman.
Brandon expressed “His name and reputation were well known in the motorcycle world all through the southeastern region. Mark Hellman could fix what couldn’t be fixed! The motorcycle community lost a legendary mechanic. Family members lost a brother, grandfather, uncle, and his sons lost a father. But if heaven has a motorcycle shop, I’m sure that’s where his soul is shining and smiling down on us. Rest in peace Mark Hellman aka POPS.”
He is also survived by his devoted siblings: Daniel Hellman (and wife Suzanne) of Mobile, AL; Barry Hellman (and wife Barbara) of Charlotte, NC; and his sister, Barbara Hellman Goldstein of Cornelius, NC, who provided unwavering support and love. Mark's family was the cornerstone of his life, and their bond was a testament to the strength of love and family.
A celebration of Mark's life will be held on March 19, 2026, at his sister's home, where family and friends will gather to honor a life hard lived, share stories, and remember the man who brought so much emotion and laughter into their lives.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the ASPCA, an organization close to Mark's heart, reflecting his deep compassion for animals and his commitment to their well-being.
Mark Eliot Hellman leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and kindness. He will be profoundly missed but forever celebrated in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing him. May his soul rest in eternal peace, and may his spirit continue to inspire those he left behind. Per Mark “Work hard, ride hard, and Roll Tide!”
