Helen Davis Cathey

Helen Davis Cathey, 94, of Charlotte, NC, passed away on Thursday, July 23, 2026, at the Weisiger Health Center of The Sharon at SouthPark under Hospice care. Her family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the dedicated teams of The Sharon and VIA Health Partners/Hospice of Charlotte for their tireless compassion.

Helen was born on September 25, 1931, to Irene Chandler Davis and Ralph Allen Davis of Greensboro, NC. She graduated from Alamance High School and worked for the Credit Bureau of Greater Greensboro before moving to Charlotte where she settled to raise her family and was an active and faithful member of Covenant Presbyterian Church for nearly seven decades.

She was preceded in death by her husband George M. Cathey, brothers Ralph Davis and Bill Davis, and sisters Frances D. Brownlee and Pat D. Greeson. Helen is survived by her children: Michael Cathey, Bill Cathey (Amy), and Sarah C. Mullis (Brent), and many nieces and nephews.

Helen loved to read nearly as much as she loved chocolate. She delighted in children and the splendor of nature. She was modest and thoughtful, appreciative of good conversation, and time at home with her family. Her quiet demeanor belied a fierce dedication to her family, friends, and faith. Helen walked humbly with her God.

A Service of Witness to the Resurrection will be held at 1:00 pm, Saturday, August 8, 2026, at Covenant Presbyterian Church, 1000 E. Morehead Street, Charlotte, NC 28204. The family will receive friends following the service in the Welcome Center. For those unable to attend in person, the service will be live streamed at www.covenantpresby.org/live.
