Obituary of Doris Jean (Taylor) Wells
Doris Jean Taylor Wells, 92, of Charlotte was called home to God January 27, 2023. The family would like to offer sincere thanks to the medical/caregiver team at the Senior Retreat at Stonehaven that supported her during this trying time. Doris grew up in Marshville, NC on the family farm with her parents and 5 siblings. She was the eldest daughter. She graduated from Wingate Junior College in Wingate, NC and went on to have a career as a bank teller where she met and married her husband, LaVern Wells, and eventually became a homemaker. He predeceased her in 2017. During her life she was an avid golfer, and her experience led her into the LPGA contacting her for sloping and rating local golf courses for scorecard purposes. She loved this request and performed it for ten years. She was the Raintree Country Club ladies champion for two years and was proud of the two hole-in-ones that she attained through her personal playing days in her foursomes. In her younger days she enjoyed being a bridge club member, traveling with her husband, home decorating, and endless hours of landscape design and implementation. She is survived by a sister, three daughters, seven grandchildren, and three great grandchildren: sister Esther Medlin of Monroe, NC; daughter Sharon Lindenman and son-in-law, Barry of Matthews, NC; daughter Debbie Price and son-in law, Andy of Boiling Springs, SC; daughter Lisa Newby and son-in-law, Reed of Fort Mill, SC; granddaughter, Shannon Thompson of Cary, NC; granddaughter Amber Faust of Indian Trail, NC; grandson Andrew Price of Greenville, SC; grandson Luke Price of Columbia, SC; grandson Justin DeMarco of Raleigh, NC; granddaughter Taylor DeMarco of Charlotte, NC; granddaughter Jadyn Newby of Fort Mill, SC; great-granddaughter Kaitlyn Bishop of Cary, NC; great-grandsons Ethan Faust and Bentley Faust of Indian Trail, NC. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Philadelphia Baptist Church, 5709 Philadelphia Church Road, Marshville, NC 28103. The church was Doris’s home church during her childhood and has always been home to the Taylor family. The other donation site is to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital (stjude.org). All families for either location will benefit and be grateful for the memorial. A private service for family only will be held.
