William Russell Mathis passed away on September 27, 2021 at the age of 90. He was born on November 4, 1930 in Kentucky. He is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Beverly Ann Mathis (Hokenson), two children Diana Swatosh and Bill Mathis (Charlene), 4 grandchildren Doug Swatosh (Angelene), Debra Romalia (Brad), David Swatosh (Jennifer) and Bill Mathis, along with 8 great-grandchildren whom he loved dearly.
William, also known as Russ to many, was an employee at Ford for 30 years before peacefully retiring in 1986. Russ and Bev moved from Birmingham, MI to Plymouth, MI to be closer to Diana and her children. In their retirement, they started traveling the world, playing golf and enjoying their grandchildren.
Russ and Bev spent their retirement years traveling between Florida and Michigan.
They came back often for weddings, to meet new grandchildren and remain a figure in the lives of their family.
Family was everything to Russ, they were his pride and joy. He would constantly boast about how smart all his great-grandchildren were and how his grandchildren turned into successful adults. He always reminded his family how proud he was of them. The family spent countless hours playing Euchre, Dominoes and many other games. Russ made an impact in the lives of everyone in his family.
A private burial will take place at Riverside Cemetery in Plymouth at a future date.
