

BILL was born on 20th of October 1931 in Chicago, IL to William Harrington & Gladys Bell Harrington.
Bill graduated from Amundsen High School in Chicago, IL. Following High School, he attended the University of Illinois/Navy Pier, joined the Navy, transferred to the Army, and was stationed in Eielson AFB in Alaska during the Korean War. Bill earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Physical Education from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign where he was quarterback on the football team. He earned a Master’s Degree in Health and Physical Education from New Mexico Highlands University. Bill taught physical education and coached in the Pontiac Public Schools. Bill was later self-employed and retired from basement waterproofing.
In his younger days, Bill played semi-pro football with the Pontiac Arrows and the Pontiac Firebirds. Later in life, he enjoyed playing golf, shooting pool, playing cards, going to the gym, and watching grandkids play sports.
Bill is survived by his children, William Edward Harrington, John Harrington, Carol Rosted (Frank), and Sarah Szafran (Larry); Grandchildren, Trevor Szafran, Gabe Szafran, Brigitte Sloat, and Melanie Rosted; Great Grandchildren, Jake Kregear, Landon Sloat, Logan Kregear, Tanner Sloat, Carlie Judge, Thomas Szafran, Harrison Szafran and his sister Elizabeth Harrington.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents William Harrington and Gladys Bell Harrington.
Family and Friends are invited to a memorial service that will take place at Great Lakes National Cemetery located at 4200 Belford Road, Holly, MI on Monday, July 6 2026 at 2:30pm.

Our dad had many words of advice, but a few of our favorites were: eat more green onions and garlic, get in the pool and swim for aches and pains, and always work on your short game.
