Sharon Kay (Torasso) Dolak Abanathie passed away peacefully on June 22, 2026, in New Hudson, Michigan, at the age of 83.
Born on November 11, 1942, in Clinton, Indiana, Sharon lived a life defined by kindness, generosity, and unwavering devotion to her family. She was also proud to earn her Master's Degree from Indiana State University.
Sharon was first married to Raymond Dolak until his passing in 1995. Years later, life brought her an unexpected and beautiful second chapter when she reunited with her high school sweetheart, Bill Abanathie. They were married and shared 27 wonderful years filled with love, laughter, and adventure. Together they traveled throughout the United States, enjoyed many cruises, cherished their lake home in Angola, Indiana, and later made their home in Tavares, Florida, before eventually moving back to Michigan.
Their Florida home became the backdrop for countless cherished family memories. Visits with Mimi and Papa, especially trips to Disney and the nearby parks, are memories their children and grandchildren will treasure forever.
Whether she was preparing a favorite meal, sewing a special outfit for a grandchild, or carefully creating a beautiful cross-stitch keepsake, Sharon expressed her devotion to family through caring for others. Every handmade gift carried a piece of her heart, and every meal she prepared brought family and friends together around her table. Those expressions of care and generosity will remain treasured memories for generations to come.
Sharon and Bill also shared a special bond with their beloved dog, Sarge, whose playful personality brought endless smiles and was a constant source of companionship and joy.
Sharon is survived by her devoted husband of 27 years, Bill Abanathie; her children Jerry (Holleigh) Dolak and their children, Audrey and Cooper; Doug Dolak; Renee (Jim) Cottone and their children, Vincent and Rayann; Bill's children William (Beth) Abanathie and their children, Chelsea (Tom), Evie, Madison, and Natalie; Becky (Mark) Poindexter and their children, Michele (Greg) and Christopher; her sister Charlene (Marc) Smith; her niece Lori (Ryan) McCracken; along with many extended family members, dear friends, and all whose lives were enriched by knowing her.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Raymond Dolak.
To her family, she was simply Mom, Mimi, wife, sister, and aunt. Her greatest legacy was the family she loved, the traditions she created, and the memories that will continue to bring them together. Her kindness, generosity, and unwavering devotion will continue to guide and comfort those fortunate enough to have known her.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, August 1, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Toasted Oak Grill & Market, 27790 Novi Road, Novi, Michigan 48377.
