Robert Wayne Kelley

Bob was born in Alpena, Michigan to his mother (Hilda Beitler Kelley) and father (Franklin Russel Kelley). Rob was the oldest of five children (siblings: Shelby, Frank Jr., Thomas, and Sherry).

In February 21st, 1958 he met the love of his life (Dorothy Martell) at the Owl Cafe. They enjoyed talking and dancing with their friends. Bob proposed marriage to Dorothy in April, they were married by June 28th, 1958. Nine months later, they welcomed their first child (Deborah). Rob joined the Army and served in Korea. Thirteen months later, they welcomed their twin sons (Robert and Randy). Robert received an honorable discharge from the Army due to the couple having three children under two years of age. Finally, in 1962 they were blessed with a fourth child (Brett).

In 1954 Robert Graduated from Alpena High School, where he excelled in various sports (basketball, speed skating, football, baseball etc.). After leaving the Armed Services, Rob attended Eastern Michigan University and earned a bachelor’s degree in Education. He taught Science at Our Lady of Sorrows (1965-1973) while working there, he earned a Master’s Degree in Education. At OLS he was the athletic director and coached basketball, football, wrestling and baseball. His baseball team became the Catholic League State Champs in 1969. Then, Mr. Kelley moved on to Rochester High School to teach Biology, Genetics, and General Science until 1991. While teaching in Rochester, he was also the varsity football defensive coach and JV girl’s golf coach.

Robert had many interests. He loved golf and, once retired he played several times a week. He even got seven holes in one! He was an avid card player and took pleasure in playing video poker, black jack, and royal flush in Las Vegas, Nevada. He and Dorothy moved outside of Vegas to Henderson, Nevada. While there they spent time with friends, family, and neighbors golfing, playing games, and going to Casinos.

Robert is survived by his wife: Dorothy, sister: Sherry (Mark Roberts), brother: Teke Kelley (Laura). Children: Deborah (Dave Schinke), Robert (Char Kelley), and Randy Kelley. Grandchildren: Michelle Schinke, David Schinke, Valerie (Ryan Marshall), Alex Schinke (Kelly), Robert Kelley III (Heather), Amber (DJ Atkinson), Ashley (Matthew McClendon), Josh Lee, RJ Kelley, and Melanie Kelley. Great Grandchildren: Jacob Smarsch, Christopher Schinke, Lucas Marshall, Skyler Schinke, Clyde Schinke, Nathan Marshall, Holland Schinke, Ava Kelley, Robert 4th Kelley, Lilly Kelley, Olivia Atkinson, Eli McClendon, and Rylee McClendon.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents (Franklin and Hilda Kelley), His son (Brett Kelley), His Sister (Shelby, Ed Benoit), and brother (Frank, Linda Kelley).
