She brought light into every room she entered, fought for her family, and always spoke her mind. She was a woman of wisdom, whether it be baking, sewing, or life advice, she had it all. And she had seen it all, she loved to travel with her loving husband, Tom McGee, on road trips all over the country for weeks on end. Whether it was to sight-see at the national parks, or go visit far away family.
Rita and Tom were happily together for over 51 years, with their three children, Alisha (husband Marc), Jenni (husband Shawn), and Mike (partner Kristie), along with their six grandkids, Shelby, Vex, Andrew, Noelle, Riley, and Jacob. She is also survived by her sister Sue Van Der Veer, her niece Myriah and her nephew Zachary.
Rita was loved by many and a true treasure to our hearts.
To know her was to love her, whether you were a foster kid, her own family, a stray cat, or a random friend somebody brought home, she always made sure you felt right at home, like a family. You could almost always find her nose buried in a good book, or eyes glued to the newest baking show, giving tips on how she would do things, or telling stories from her life, her family, her experiences.
Rita McGee will be forever loved and missed. She was preceded in death by her grandparents who raised her, Russel and Gladys (Gram) Cummings, her mother Donna Stewart, and her brother Robert Stewart.
A celebration of life will be scheduled at a later date.
