Richard Thomas Roberts, 90, of West Bloomfield Twp., passed away on Sunday, November 27, 2022, at Henry Ford Hospital in W. Bloomfield Twp. The son of George Roberts and Ellen Florence Church, he was born on May 30, 1932 in Detroit. Dick served in the United States Army for 22 months. “Dickie” took over the Checker Cab business (started by his father) at the age of 22 and ran it with his brother until he sold out 43 years later. He was a member of Greenfield Presbyterian Church, where he tended to the grounds and sang in the choir, VP of his neighborhood homeowners association and very active in West Bloomfield Parks and Recreation, where he organized and played men’s senior softball and ping pong. Sports were his passion but he also loved to garden…everywhere. Surviving are his spouse Jocelyn, children Mark (Cindy) Roberts, Janis (Ed) Solack, Joan (Todd) Pohl, 8 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Evelyn Rees, and brother, George Roberts Jr.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 10th, at Greenfield Presbyterian Church, 2312 Greenfield Road, Berkley 48072, with family visitation at 10:00 until time of service with a luncheon following the service. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Richard's memory may be made to Greenfield Presbyterian Church. Final resting place at Great Lakes National Cemetery, Holly, MI.
