Richard Kenneth Adler of Ann Arbor Michigan died peacefully on Wednesday July 3, 2024 surrounded by his husband and his family after an almost 7 year battle with Necrotizing Autoimmune Myopathy. He was born on April 11, 1947 in Bronx N. Y. to Sidney and Rosalyn (Mandel) Adler, and grew up in Manhattan. He graduated from W. C. Mepham H. S, in North Bellmore N. Y. in 1965. Richard received his B. A. degree from Long Island University, M. A. degree from N. Y. U. in 1970, M. A. degree from The University of Akron in 1976 and his Ph. D. from Ohio University in 1980.
Richard last worked as a Speech Language Pathology Professor at Minnesota State University–Minnesota from 2000-2015 until his retirement. Prior to his illness, Richard was actively involved in bicycling, gardening and travel. Richard was preceded in death by his mother Rosalyn ( Mandel) Adler and father Sidney Adler. Richard is survived by his loving husband David M. Purcell of Ann Arbor, Michigan; sister, Barbara Parker-Albano of Mercersburg, PA., sister, Ellen Adler of Marietta, GA., and son Justin Adler, daughter in law Natalya (Alpert) Adler; granddaughter Celia London Adler, and grandson Benjamin Eli Adler all of Roswell, GA., along with countless nieces, nephews and cousins.
A Celebration of Life will be held later this Summer. Those desiring may make contributions to The Leukemia/Lymphoma Society and/or St. Jude’s Children's Hospital
