Ralph Julius Beres, affectionately known as “Big Ralph,” passed away on Friday, March 21, 2025, at the age of 67, surrounded by love. A resident of Attica Township, Ralph was born on August 2, 1956, in Detroit, Michigan. Standing tall at 6'6", he was a larger-than-life presence, not just in stature but in spirit—filling every room with warmth and humor, always the life of the party.
Ralph is survived by his devoted wife, Cynthia Beres; his daughter, Lisa Boyd (Nate); his stepdaughters, Mandy Romanowski and Tori Dresbach (Eric); and his stepson, Mark Romanowski. He was a proud grandfather to Aiden, Brock, Alexandria, David, Isaac, Malina, Steven, Mark, Jeffery, Jameson, and Frankie.
Ralph began his career at the age of 19 years old with Chrysler Corporation at Trenton Engine in 1975 before becoming a skilled Tool and Die Maker at Mt. Elliot. He dedicated 30 years to his work and was proud he was able to retire at 50 years young. Known for his generous spirit, he was the kind of man who would leave Christmas gifts for the mail carrier or a cold case of beer for the garbage men. He believed in kindness, laughter, and sharing life’s simple joys.
An outdoorsman, Ralph found happiness in snowmobiling, jet skiing, and simply being outside in nature. He was a lifelong sports fan, holding season tickets for the Detroit Lions for many years, cheering on the Red Wings and Tigers! He had a love for Shark Week, Comedy Central, and the Nature Channel, finding entertainment in life’s wild and wonderful moments. His home was filled with animals, a testament to his big heart.
Ralph had a unique knack for never letting anything go to waste—whether it was a leftover meal or an empty can by the side of the road. No matter where he was, even on the freeway, he’d stop—after all, “it’s ten cents!” His love of coupons and practical frugality was unmatched, a trait that only added to his endearing personality. In his downtime, Ralph could often be found unwinding in his hot tub, enjoying the simple pleasures of life. His presence was a gift to all who knew him, and his generous heart and unforgettable sense of humor will be deeply missed.
A Celebration of Life will be held in May for family and friends to gather, share stories, and honor the remarkable man he was. Details to come.
