“Michael ‘Mike’ Morrissy, a man of boundless courage and unwavering love, passed away peacefully at his daughter’s home in Bloomfield Hills on October 16, 2026, after a courageous battle with an extended illness. Born on December 10, 1949, in Lackawanna, New York, Michael was blessed with a rich life filled with adventure, laughter, and a profound commitment to family and service.
Michael was the beloved son of Robert and Rita Morrissy, who instilled in him the values of bravery, loyalty, and compassion. He graduated from Divine Child High School in Dearborn, where he began to lay the foundation for a life dedicated to helping others.
His career as a firefighter and paramedic spanned 37 remarkable years. Michael began his vocation in Highland Park and later retired in 2009 from the Birmingham/Chesterfield Fire Departments. His colleagues remember him not only for his professional dedication but also for his ability to lighten any moment with his humor and signature "Morrisisms," those silly, made-up phrases that never failed to bring a smile.
Beyond his career, Michael was an avid cruciverbalist and reader, delighting in the challenge of a good crossword puzzle or autobiography. He found joy on the open road as a Harley rider, where he felt the freedom and adventure that matched his spirited personality. His home was always filled with warmth, laughter, and endless stories shared with family and friends.
He is survived by his cherished children, Lisa (Caesar) Cervantes, Lauren (Gregory) Powers, and Carla Morrissy, along with six adoring grandchildren who were the light of his life. His family was his greatest treasure, and he was theirs—a pillar of strength, humor, and endless love.
In private, Michael's family will honor his life with a ceremony that reflects the profound impact he had on all who knew him. They find comfort in the legacy of love and laughter he leaves behind.
Michael Morrissy will be remembered for his heroic heart, his infectious humor, and his ability to make lasting friendships with anyone he encountered. His life was a testament to the power of kindness and the enduring bonds of family and friendship. He will be deeply missed and forever cherished.”
