John David Van Y

John D. Van Y, of Oscoda, MI and Holiday, FL, age 94, went home to his heavenly Father and Savior on Friday, October 10, 2025. John was born on November 6, 1930 in Flint, Michigan to Vern and Freda (Dynes) Van Y.

After graduating from Bendle High School in 1948, John attended Baker College in Flint. He also served in the Michigan National Guard in the early 1950's. He worked for Standard Oil as an auditor, sales rep and territory manager from the mid-1950's until 1972. He then went on to work for Carl M. Schultz in Lapeer Mi until 1986. After that, he owned several Quick Oil Changes in the Lapeer / Davison area and then also founded Van Y Tire which was located in Lapeer Michigan from 1988 to 1997.

On September 27, 1952, John married Jane Groves. They celebrated 70 years of marriage in 2022 before she preceded him in death on October 6, 2022. After John's final retirement, John and Jane became "snow birds" and split their time between Holiday, Florida and Oscoda, Michigan.

John had a strong Christian faith and attended First Baptist Church in New Port Richey, FL and Grace Community Presbyterian Church in Oscoda, MI. John had a servant's heart and volunteered for many years at Camp Barakel in Fairview, Michigan with the flowers and landscaping. He loved sailing his whole life, and enjoyed to go camping and golfing. He also taught himself how to carve and did many carvings of birds and canes.

John spent the last few years of his life as a resident of New Hope Bay Memory Care in Bay City. The family wishes to express their sincere thanks to the entire staff there and to the staff of Transitions Hospice for all the loving care he received from them.

John is survived by his children Chris (Sandy) Van Y of Bay City, and Tim Van Y of Oscoda; grandchildren Patrick (Dayna) Van Y of Seminole Fl, Renee (Jared) Parham of Middleville and Lynn (Chris) Van Dyken of Cedar Springs; great grandchildren Griffin Parham and Maeve Van Dyken.

Cremation has taken place. A memorial graveside service for the family will be held at a later date at Evergreen Cemetery, Grand Blanc.
