Donald Edwin Ross

Celebrating the remarkable life of Don, whose journey began on May 18, 1944, in the welcoming community of Detroit, Michigan. Born to Donald W. and Lois H. (Bettis) Ross, Don grew up in a household filled with love and laughter alongside his sister Shirley. Don later found homes in Warren and Elk Rapids, Michigan, and Venice, Florida, where his vibrant personality and warm spirit continued to flourish.

A proud graduate of Harper Woods High School and Wayne State University, Don dedicated his career to nurturing young minds as an elementary art teacher for Van Dyke Public Schools. His passion for teaching was matched only by his enthusiasm for the arts, a devotion that was evident in his long-standing involvement with the Grosse Pointe Theatre. As an active lifetime member of over 60 years, Don brought stories to life on stage, creating magic and memories for countless audiences.

Beyond the theater, Don was a celebrated figure skater and coach, holding a coveted Adult Gold Medal from the US Figure Skating Association. His commitment to the Detroit Figure Skating Club exemplified his love for the sport and his enduring spirit of excellence.

Don's life was enriched by his enduring partnership of over fifty years with Jon R. Lechner, whose unwavering love and companionship were a testament to the beautiful life they shared. His family was further extended with the cherished bonds he maintained with his nieces Brenda (David) Springs, Lisa (Steven) Victory, and nephew Carl (Butch) (Sharon Dudis) Rohloff. His beloved fur babies, Charlie and Georgia, brought additional joy to his days, providing companionship and unconditional love.

Don was known for his quick wit and warm smile, always ready with a joke to lighten the mood. His ability to make everyone feel welcome and valued was a testament to his kind and generous heart, touching the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Though his journey continues, the family wishes to express their gratitude to the compassionate staff at Custom Hospice for their tender care. As Don's loved ones reflect on his legacy, they hold him "Forever in our Hearts."

In lieu of flowers, donations in Don's memory may be made to the Grosse Pointe Theatre Inc., (315 Fisher Road Grosse Pointe, MI 48230 www.gpt.org) where his artistic spirit will continue to inspire and entertain future generations.

Cremation has taken place and a Memorial Service will take place at a later date.
