Barbara "Bobbie" Jean Swindlehurst

The daughter of George Carl and Marie Eleanor (Case) Peters, Bobbie was born on September 21, 1946, in Lansing, Michigan. She graduated from O’Rafferty Catholic School with the Class of 1964.

In 1968, Bobbie married the love of her life, Leal Emmett Swindlehurst. Together, they shared 57 years of marriage and built a life filled with devotion, adventure, family, and laughter. After retiring, Bobbie and Leal were rarely seen apart. She rode alongside him as part of the Defenders Motorcycle Club, and after they moved back up north, she joined him in their Jeeping adventures. She also treasured the many days they spent with their dear friends in Florida.

Before her marriage, Bobbie worked for the State of Michigan. She later worked as a teller at First of America Bank in Onekama and at Kmart, where she made numerous friends and many wonderful memories. Above all, she was a devoted mother to her two daughters, Kerri Mackey and Shelby Swindlehurst.

Bobbie’s sense of humor was truly one of a kind, and she was loved by everyone fortunate enough to know her. She was a loyal and loving wife, a devoted mother, and a proud grandmother and great-grandmother. Her family—especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren—brought her tremendous joy. Bobbie always had a hug waiting for those she loved.

She is survived by her daughters, Kerri Mackey (Len Dunlap) and Shelby Swindlehurst; her grandchildren, Emma (Austin) Winkler, Abby (Skyler) Stolk, Cody (Katy) Swindlehurst, and Ian Rushing; numerous beloved great-grandchildren; her sister, Margaret “Maggie” Hilliard; her brother, Richard “Rick” Peters; her sister-in-law, LaRea Kremhelmer (Phil Elko); and many cherished nieces and nephews.

Bobbie was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Leal; her parents, George and Marie Peters; an infant son and an infant daughter; and her parents-in-law, Emmett and Georgia Swindlehurst.

Bobbie will be deeply missed, but her unforgettable humor, generous hugs, adventurous spirit, and unwavering love for her family will remain in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.

There will be no funeral per her request. A celebration of life will be announced at a later date
