Barbara Ann Price of Howell, Michigan, passed away peacefully on October 20, 2024, after a brief illness. She was 94 years old. She was preceded in death by her brother Alfred, sister Myra, and her husband Larry with whom she shared 37 years of marriage. Barbara also leaves behind two sons, Timothy Cook and Courtney Cook, two daughters in-law, Elaine Cook (Timothy) and Sally Cook (Courtney), seven grandchildren, and seven great grandchildren.
Born in Montreal, Canada, Barbara moved to Michigan as a small child, and on to Howell after graduating from high school in Walled Lake. She remained a Howell resident until 1996 when both she and Larry retired, sold their home, and embarked upon a tour of the country in their motor home. They ended up settling in Nokomis, Florida, where they spent the next 22 years. Those years were some of the happiest for Barbara. She loved being near the ocean and spending time walking the beach. A highlight for her each year was a weeklong get-together with her sisters, Myra and Jane.
Barbara considered raising her family her greatest accomplishment. She was proud of her children. Family get-togethers were always a source of anticipation and great enjoyment for her. She loved visiting with her grandchildren and great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and friends.
Barbara was a lifelong member of the Methodist church. She enjoyed singing in the church choir and often talked about how much her church family had meant to her over the years.
An avid reader, Barbara would often consume multiple books in a week. She loved playing the piano and conducting sing-alongs with friends. She thrived in the company of others. Her zest for learning and enjoying all life had to offer never wavered—learning to scuba dive in her 60’s, swimming with the manatees in her 70’s, taking a creative writing class in her 80’s, and getting into cardio drumming at the age of 93.
Barbara returned to live in Michigan in 2019 to be closer to her family and renew friendships in her “hometown”. She enjoyed playing cards (especially bridge) and attending the social events held at the retirement community where she lived.
Barbara will be dearly missed by family, friends, and those she touched with her spirit and love.
A service of remembrance will take place for the family and close friends.
