Mary Carolyn Griffin

Mary Carolyn (Jones) Griffin, known as Carolyn to her family and friends, of Sun City Center, Florida, passed away on Thursday, September 24th at the age of 80. She was born on March 12, 1946, in Clarksville, Tennessee, where she graduated from Clarksville High School and Austin Peay State University. She was the daughter of the late William and Mary Lewis (Roe) Jones.

She worked as a Technical Support Representative for Schneider Electric in Andover, MA. Upon her retirement, she worked in the administrative office of the Nashua, NH Regional Planning Commission. After moving to Sun City Center, she was actively involved with the Hope Fund for over 10 years as a mentor and tutor for school children in Wimauma, Florida.

She was preceded in death by her sister, Frances Ann (Jones) Shoup of Sun City Center, FL.

She is survived by her husband of 40 years, Philip Griffin of Sun City Center, FL; her stepchildren Kathryn (Steven) M. Griffin Ouellette of Plaistow, NH; David S. Griffin of Pittsburg, NH; and Allen (Donna) K. Griffin of Waynesville, MO; and her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her cousins Jim Roe of Alabama; Mike Roe of Tennessee; Cindy (Roe) Young of Tennessee; and Phil Roe of Tennessee.

Some of Carolyn’s favorite times were spent traveling with her husband to England and Wales to visit friends and exploring historic areas of the United States. She enjoyed spending time with friends, visiting many local restaurants, and trying different foods. She was a member of the Sun City Center book club, where she shared her love of reading. She was also a member of the Sun City Center quilting club, where she enjoyed mastering the art of quilting and made many quilted blankets for her family.

The family would like to thank Makenzi and Krista, her primary nursing care in the ICU at HCA South Shore Hospital and their colleagues, for the care and compassion they showed our loved one in their final days.
