

Born on July 2,1936 in Philadelphia, Pa. Ray was the beloved son of Ray and Marie Bertsch. He was a devoted husband to his “Bride” Dee for 65 years and a very proud father to Charles. He was also a cherished brother to his sister Marie and loyal friend to many.
Ray proudly served his country in the United States Army. He achieved the rank of E4 and was honorably discharged in 1961 but the week before his wedding he was called back up for the Berlin Wall crisis. So he proudly served his country 2 years and 10 months.
His military service was a source of deep pride throughout his life and he carried the values of duty, honor, faith and sacrifice into everything he did.
Following his military service, he worked as a Divisional Credit Manager for Oscar Mayer for 25 years. He was known for his strong work ethic, his wonderful sense of humor, his integrity, his generosity and his unwavering commitment to his family, faith and community.
As faithful Catholic, Ray was a devoted parishioner of St.Andrew the Apostle in Chandler, AZ. His faith guided his life and provided strength, comfort and wisdom to those around him.
He enjoyed giving gifts at Christmas, from the back of his car, to all the children who sat near him at church.
When he was able he enjoyed playing golf, and softball most of all.
He is survived by his wife, Dee and son, Chuck.As well as his nephew, James (Gretchen) Haggerty and niece, Nancy (James) Mullen along with many more nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents, Ray and Marie Bertsch and his sister, Marie Rodgers.
A mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Andrew the Apostle’s in Chandler. (pending dates)
Interment with military honors will be at Holy Redeemer Cemetery at 23015 N. Cave Creek Rd. Phoenix.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Hospice of the Valley and or St. Andrew the Apostle Church.
