He is survived by his devoted wife, Bonnie Burns, and five children: Justin Burns, Nathaniel Burns, Robert Drexel, Christine Drexel, and Patsy Rowe-Drexel. He also leaves behind six cherished grandchildren: Kaylee Burns, Sebastian Burns, Lillian Thomas, Charlotte Rowe, Benjamin Rowe, and Henry Rowe and his brother Peter Carter.
Dennis proudly served in the United States Navy for 23 years, from the Vietnam War through Desert Storm. After moving to Arizona in 1997, he continued his dedication to service as a middle school science teacher, inspiring countless 7th and 8th grade students.
Known for his loving nature and mischievous spirit, Dennis will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Wounded Warrior Project or Foothills Food Bank in his memory.
A Celebration of Life and Honor Guard service will be held on Monday, July 29, at 9:30 a.m. at the National Memorial Cemetery, 23029 N. Cave Creek Road, Phoenix, AZ 85024. A reception will follow at 10:30 a.m. at the Anthem Civic Center.
