Joseph Biondo Jr.

Joseph Biondo Jr. passed away peacefully in Naples, Florida, on August 17, 2026, at the age of 96. Born in May 1930 in New Brunswick, New Jersey, Joe grew up on Suydam Street and graduated from New Brunswick High School in 1948.

Upon graduation, Joe was one of only four students selected for the Bristol Myers Squibb Scholarship Graduate Chemistry Program. However, duty called, and he was drafted into the Korean War that same year. Trained in electronics, radar technology, and guided missiles at Fort Monmouth, New Jersey, Joe served with immense bravery. He was awarded two Bronze Stars for saving the lives of his fellow soldiers during attacks in no-man's land—decorations he proudly received, finally in hand on his 90th birthday.

Following his honorable discharge, Joe returned home and began a long career as a glazier, eventually joining Local 1183 (now Local 1009) of the New Jersey Glaziers, Architectural Metals and Glass Workers. In 1960, he met the love of his life, Carolyn Kay Betts, at his office. They married in 1962, settled in South River, New Jersey, and joyfully welcomed their only child, three-day-old adopted son, Michael, in 1967.

Joe and Carol spent 45 wonderful years in South River, where Joe was a faithful parishioner at Corpus Christi Church. In 2011, they moved to Rossmoor Village in Monroe Township. Following Carol’s passing in 2018 after 56 years of marriage, Joe relocated to Naples, Florida, to live with his son, Michael, and son-in-law, Manuel, where he spent his final years enjoying the Florida sunshine and the exceptional care of his family. He also resided at Aston Gardens in Naples and Brookdale/Discovery Village in Bonita Springs, and ultimately returned to his son's home in Bonita Springs, where he was lovingly cared for in his final days. Joe also enjoyed worshiping at Jubilee Fellowship of Naples with his son in law, Manuel, and St. Leo Catholic Church in Bonita Springs.

In his youth, Joe was a gifted athlete. He played fast-pitch softball and basketball and earned two Golden Gloves as an undefeated champion boxer in the 1950s. He filled his life with the things he loved: the New York Yankees, football, big band music, singing, dancing with the ladies, and devouring books in his later years. Above all, Joe was a loyal friend and helper to anyone in need.

Joe is survived by his beloved son, Michael Biondo; his cherished son-in-law, Manuel Rivera; his adored and devoted friend of many years, Isabella Gonzalez; and many loving nieces and nephews. He has been reunited in heaven with his beloved wife, Carol; his parents, Antonia and Joseph Biondo Sr.; his twin brother, Sam Biondo and sister-in-law, Laura Biondo; and his sister, Fran DeLuca and brother-in-law, Dave DeLuca. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered as a decorated war hero, a devoted, loving husband, and a caring and proud father.
