Wayne Walton

Wayne Walton, age 64, of Columbus, Georgia, passed away on September 10, 2026. Born on April 10, 1962, Wayne grew up in Stewart County as one of nine children, where the values of family, steadiness, and consideration for others were woven into everyday life. A graduate of Stewart-Quitman High School, formerly Lumpkin High School, he took genuine pleasure in academics and reading—interests that reflected a patient mind and a thoughtful spirit.

Wayne served in the United States Marine Corps for 13 years, including service in Saudi Arabia and Okinawa, Japan. He earned distinction as a Rifle Marksman, carrying forward the discipline and commitment of military service into the rest of his life. After his discharge, Wayne worked for years on a boat in Alaska.

Wayne resided in Las Vegas for many years before relocating to Columbus, Georgia, on October 1, 2025. Wherever he lived, Wayne was known for giving of his time and services with a charitable heart, offering support in ways that were practical and sincere. He also served in the capacity as a mentor, encouraging others with steady guidance and a deep belief in showing up for people.

Family remained most important to Wayne. Those who knew him best understood that even when he was a strict brother, his love was always present. As an uncle, Wayne delighted in being mischievous, bringing levity to family moments while still being a dependable presence. He loved family outings and was a great cook who especially enjoyed grilling. Wayne also enjoyed fishing, movies, and television - especially survival shows, including his favorite, "5 Below Zero".

Wayne is survived by brother, Terry Walton; sister, Wanda Walton; brother, Lawrence Walton; 11 nieces; 5 nephews; and a host of great-nieces and great-nephews.

Special thanks to all for supporting Wayne in the same way that he gave to others.

In honor of Wayne's wishes, his ashes will be scattered off of the coast of California.
