Patricia Louise Smith Lander was born to Edith Cannon Smith and Roy Hasell Smith on January 21, 1926 in Livingston, TN. She passed away on August 28, 2026 at St. Anne’s Terrace, Atlanta, GA surrounded by her devoted family.
A trailblazer from the start, Pat was the first member of her family to attend college, receiving an Associate’s Degree from Stephens College, in Columbia, Missouri, and a Bachelor’s Degree from The University of Tennessee. She worked at Retail Credit Company (now Equifax) and married Coy R. Lander in 1948. Pat possessed an insatiable curiosity about the world around her. She traveled extensively, collecting memories and photographs from adventures across Europe, Scandinavia, China, Russia, Australia, New Zealand and the Middle East. These journeys along with her deep love of music, reading, volunteering, lifelong learning, photography and history enriched her long life.
Pat was an active and engaged member of Trinity Presbyterian Church for 75 years. She served as an elder, a Stephen’s minister, and a choir member. Perhaps one of her greatest joys was serving as chairperson for the Wedding Committee for many years, helping countless couples begin their lives together at Trinity. Pat was also an active volunteer in her community through services to the Atlanta History Center, the Atlanta Steeplechase, and past membership at the Cherokee Town and Country Club. To all who were privileged to know her, she will be remembered as a person who exuded warmth and kindness every day.
Affectionately known as “Mom” or “Mimi”, Pat is survived by her son, Roy Lander (Elise), Atlanta, GA and her daughter Patricia C. Lander, Atlanta, GA. She is also survived by three grandchildren: Foster Lander (Hannah), Dunwoody, GA, Sara Allaman (fiance Connor), Cookeville, TN , and Jack Allaman, Peachtree Corners, GA. She is survived by her sister, Peggy Pangle, Livingston, TN and two nieces: Cathy Oakley (Louis), Livingston, TN and Vivian Ashley (Ron), Roswell, GA. Pat was predeceased by her husband, Coy R. Lander Sr. and by her oldest son, Coy Randolph (Rand) Lander, Jr.
The family wishes to express their deepest gratitude for the compassionate and excellent care given by the staff of St. Anne’s Terrace, the staff of Agape Hospice and the staff at Personal Care Inc.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday, September 27th at noon at Overton County Memorial Gardens, Livingston, TN and on Monday, October 12, 2026 at 4 PM at Trinity Presbyterian Church, Atlanta, GA, with a reception following in Williams Hall. A private internment will be held prior to the service. To celebrate Patricia’s long life and vibrant spirit, the family invites attendees to wear a touch of blue to the service.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Pat’s honor to: Trinity Presbyterian Church/Adele McKee Music Ministry, The Atlanta Speech School, The American Heart Association, Stephens College, or The University of Tennessee.
