

Born on December 11, 1943, in Brunswick, Georgia, Laverne was the daughter of Garland Winston (G.W.) Sloan and Helen Louise Sloan. She was raised in Dallas, Georgia, where she formed a lifelong friendship with Lareesia Cooper. She later met the love of her life, Thomas Elsberry, and together they raised their son, Brian, in Powder Springs, Georgia, where they made their home and resided until her passing.
Laverne graduated from Dallas High School and was awarded a scholarship to beauty school. She began her professional career as a beautician, a role that reflected her creativity and passion for helping others feel their best. She later went to work for UPS, where she dedicated many years before retiring to care for her cherished grandchildren.
A woman of many talents, Laverne was especially gifted in creative arts. She found joy in making specialty cakes, crafting jewelry, and exploring various art forms. She was also a talented seamstress. Her generous spirit and love of life were evident in everything she did. Laverne especially enjoyed spending time with her family, traveling, dining out, and following her admiration for Elvis Presley.
Laverne is survived by her devoted husband of 62 years, Thomas Elsberry; her son, Brian (Rhonda) Elsberry; and her grandchildren, Jake Elsberry and Josh (Rachel) Elsberry. She also leaves behind her treasured great-grandchildren, Cayden, Emmett, and Camryn Elsberry.
She is also survived by her brother, Dean Sloan; sisters, Jackie Novotny, Joyce Riley, Debbie (Bobby) Pope, and Glenda Sue (Chris) Watson; brother-in-law, Billy (Betty) Elsberry; her lifelong friend, Lareesia Cooper; and many cherished cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Laverne was preceded in death by her parents, Helen Louise Sloan and G.W. Sloan; her Grandmother Hutcheson; her stepmother, Georgie Sloan; her brother, Jimmy (Marie) Cole; her brother-in-law, Gene Riley; and her infant daughter.
Laverne will be remembered for her loving heart, creative spirit, and the joy she brought into the lives of everyone who knew her. Her legacy of love, kindness, and devotion to family will live on for generations to come.
Although there will be no formal service, the family is very grateful for the thoughts, prayers and overwhelming support we have received during this difficult time.
