From an early age, Doreen’s life was shaped by faith and steady devotion. She grew up in the church and was an active member while still young. The youngest of five children, she was raised alongside three sisters and one brother, and carried forward a deep sense of family and care for others throughout her life.
Doreen pursued higher education with purpose, attending Shippensburg University to become a librarian for the Northern Bedford School System. Her commitment to learning and to the people she served continued as she completed a second master’s degree, preparing for her later work as a guidance counselor within the Charlotte County School System.
Over a remarkable 43 years in education, Doreen’s professional path reflected both dedication and a willingness to embrace new callings. She began her career as a librarian, advanced into teaching a variety of subjects, and later served as a guidance counselor. She spent 15 years teaching in Pennsylvania and 28 years with the Charlotte County School System, offering guidance marked by patience, kindness, and a faithful sense of responsibility.
Beyond her work, Doreen lived with an openhearted generosity and a quiet spirit of adventure. She enjoyed traveling, music, and playing cards, and she especially cherished time spent at Trinity Global Methodist Church (Charlotte Harbor, FL). Her devotion was evident not only in attendance, but in service—serving on the church board and delivering for Meals on Wheels, always mindful of others and ready to help where she could. She was also a member of Delta Kappa Gamma.
Doreen was preceded in death by her parents; her sisters, Arlene Stevens, Marie Hall, and Virginia Reffner; and her brother, Clyde Clapper. She is survived by her daughter, Mandy Haas (Tom Haas); her granddaughter, Kayden Steele; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Services are to be planned in the future.
