Diane Sheri George

Raised in Harlem, Diane attended the High School of NY Art and Design, where her creative spirit found early shape and direction. She later briefly attended Columbia University, continuing a lifelong pattern of showing up, doing the work, and meeting each season with quiet determination.

Diane’s life was marked by resilience and a gentle strength—an ability to endure without losing tenderness, and to work hard without losing warmth. She was kind-hearted in ways both simple and lasting, and she had a sense of humor that could soften difficult moments and bring ease to those around her. In the lives she touched, she was deeply beloved.

A gifted artist at heart, Diane found joy in music, drawing, and creative expression of many kinds. She also loved cooking, offering care and welcome through the familiar comfort of a meal—an everyday generosity that spoke to who she was.

Diane found spiritual community at The Cathedral of St. Phillip in Atlanta, Georgia, a place that reflected her steady faith and the value she placed on connection, service, and belonging.

Diane is survived by her son, Eric Nowell, and her daughter, Raquel Velez; and her grandchildren, Elijah and Evan Nowell.
