Betty Lou Carscallen

Betty Lou Carscallen, age 92, of West Branch, Michigan, passed away peacefully on July 25, 2026, at Pebblebrook Community in Stone Mountain, GA. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.

Born on November 16, 1933, Betty Lou spent her life rooted in the warmth of family and the close-knit community of West Branch. She loved snow-skiing and spent some time on ski patrol in her youth. She had a white horse she loved named “Betty”. She was the first in her family to attend college, where she earned her Bachelor’s in Education at Michigan State. She spent many weekends at the University of Michigan while dating Charlie. After they married, they were officially a “house divided” during football season. She loved attending both UM & State football games.

Lou loved the outdoors. She was an avid tennis player, bike rider, and enjoyed golf. She enjoyed yard work and gardening. Lou was a lifetime member of the Hunting Hill Garden Club and could be seen many a day working on the flowers at the neighborhood entrance. She and Charlie became real estate owners and managed multiple rental homes. She was always the Construction Manager and Maintenance Supervisor. She was a master painter and could use a hammer and a screwdriver like a pro. She loved her annual trips to the beach, “power walking,” and playing with the grands. Together, Lou & Charlie traveled the world.

Lou was a faithful member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church. She was a Cursillo participant and loved her “Circle” of women who met regularly to deepen their faith.

Lou was predeceased by her husband, Charlie, and her son Greg.

She is survived by her son, Cutty Carscallen (Caye), daughter Mary Morgan, and daughter-in-law, Beth Carscallen; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren who will never forget the love she brought to their lives.

She was loved deeply and will be remembered fondly for her stories, “wacky cake” birthday cakes, homemade bread, brown bread, and a cookie jar always full of oatmeal chocolate chip cookies.
