Born March 1, 1933, in Roanoke, Virginia, Barbara later moved to Florida, where she graduated from Miami High School. On May 30, 1953, she married the love of her life, Jerry Lee Thayer, Sr. Together they built a life centered on faith, family, and adventure until Jerry’s passing in June 2020.
Barbara was the proud mother of Debra Ann Mottl (Tom), Katheryn Mae Day (Jim), and Jerry Lee Thayer, Jr. She was a cherished grandmother of five and great-grandmother of seven, all of whom brought her tremendous joy.
After raising her family, Barbara worked as a bookkeeper at Lake Weir High School for more than 25 years. She loved traveling with Jerry, cruising, camping, playing cards with family and friends, and singing. Above all, Barbara loved God. She was active in her church, taught Sunday School, hosted women’s prayer meetings, and shared her faith through both her life and her beautiful singing voice.
Barbara will be remembered for her joyful spirit, strength, generosity, and unwavering devotion to God and family. Though she will be deeply missed, her family finds comfort knowing she is “absent from the body and present with the Lord.”

Food will be provided. Guests are asked to bring a chair to sit by the lake.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Kings Academy Village View Church.
Barbara’s life was a gift, her faith was her foundation, and her love will remain with us always. Until we meet again, Mom.
