Alan was born on May 9, 1949 in Orlando, Florida to the late Carl and Mary Ballard. He was one of three sons (brothers, Gary and Brett). He was a graduate of Colonial High School where was the Key Club President and a member of the Honor Society. He relocated to Atlanta, Georgia where he attended Emory University and obtained his BA in Business and English.
Alan worked in the banking industry during his time in college and was offered a full time position after graduation with C & S Bank, currently Bank of America. He had many passions in life including law; in pursuit of this, he climbed the ranks with the City of Orlando Police Department learning various facets and ultimately retiring as Police Sergeant.
Alan began his second career as an owner of Citrus Country Alarms. He had multiple accounts protecting both residential as well as commercial clients. He retired his successful security business after 23 years. Alan had a newfound interest in nursing and completed half of his degree. Due to family matters, he returned to the police force as a 911 operator until ultimately retiring.
Alan found joy in both flying traditional planes and soaring through the air in gliders. He shared that 'in leaving the earth, he left his worries behind'. He also enjoyed the beach, leather work, building remote control planes, bbq'ing, gardening, yard work and carpentry. He believed even in retirement he didn't have enough time for enjoying all of his hobbies because he loved everything.
Alan was also a proud Mason of Stone Mountain Lodge #729 F&AM and was a spiritual man who followed the Methodist faith.
