Kelly Jean Patterson

Kelly Jean Patterson (McCourt), 75, passed away on September 9, 2026, following a brief battle with cancer. A loving mother and longtime Houston, Texas resident, she was known for her independence, her dedication to her friends, and her involvement in the communities that mattered to her.

Born September 9, 1951, in Denver, Colorado, she moved to Houston in 1981 and made it her home for more than four decades. She worked as a computer programmer and spent most of her career with Texaco and later Chevron. Over the years, she formed friendships through work that lasted throughout her life.

Outside of work, she served for more than 15 years on the Greater Houston USBC Association Board of Directors and gave generously of her time to the bowling community. She could often be found working at tournaments or traveling with her bowling friends to compete in them. Even when she said she had bowled terribly, she always enjoyed herself.

Being politically involved mattered to her. She believed strongly in voting and encouraged people to participate in the process, regardless of their political affiliation. She could often be found at rallies supporting causes and candidates she believed in. She also gave generously to causes such as the World Wildlife Fund and Houston Public Media.

She was a devoted Houston Astros fan and loved watching games and going to watch parties with friends. Theater and live music were other longtime interests, whether she was going with friends or simply heading out on her own to see something she wanted to see.

She is survived by her only daughter, Shannon Patterson of Lone Tree, Colorado. She will be deeply missed by her daughter, her friends, and the many people who were fortunate to be part of her life.
