

Born in Scotia, NY to Kenneth and Helen Empie, he was the oldest of two siblings: his sister Janet (Empie) Kane predeceased him. He leaves behind his devoted wife, Patricia A Empie, with whom he shared 68 wonderful years. Together, they raised their family of five children: Linda (Dale) Ostrander, Janis (Ken) Ingham, Mark (Denise) Empie, Susan (Nick) Iozzo and Paul Empie. Neil also leaves behind 18 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
Neil was a longtime resident of Johnstown where he ran an insurance agency first started by his mother. As part of the insurance agency, he was a member and President of the Professional Insurance Association, he was a member of St John’s Episcopal church, St Patrick’s Masonic Lodge and a Shriner. He also was a board member of Ferndale cemetery. Neil was a veteran where he served in the US Navy during the Korean conflict.
He enjoyed outdoor sports such as golf, hunting, fishing, and boating.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to be made to the American Heart Association.
Neil’s family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude for the outpouring of love and support during this time. They also want to thank Community Hospice for their loving care of Neil. A private service will be held in Johnstown at a later date. They lovingly remember him with the words, "Forever in our hearts."
