Our wonderful Christian matriarch, Gertrude (Trudy) Veronica Neikens, went to bed August 10 and woke up in Heaven on August 11, 2026. God is good.

Together, they had four children, Charlotte, Theresa, Karlis (Charlie), and Christopher, and moved to their current home in St. Petersburg in 1972.

Trudy was an ICU nurse at St. Petersburg General (now HCA Florida St. Petersburg Hospital) for many years. She continued volunteering at the hospital with palliative care patients after retirement. Trudy loved her church family at Maranatha Baptist, volunteering and teaching Sunday school.

Trudy was predeceased by her parents, Dorothy and Jake Altenburger; her siblings, Mary Altenburger, Jake Altenburger, Doris Dziewa, Donald Altenburger, Albert Altenburger, and Catherine Bodolosky; her daughter, Charlotte Neikens, and her son, Chris Neikens.

Grieving the loss of our wonderful sister, wife, mother, Nana, Oma, and friend are husband, Charlie; sister, Grace Coleman; children, Theresa Feeney (Marty) and Charlie Neikens, and daughter-in-law, Carol Neikens; grandchildren, Thomas Feeney (Cate), Ciara Keenan (Bryce), Spencer Feeney, Cecilia Neikens-DeVore (Andie), Katie McGilvery; and great-grandchildren, Emily Feeney, Sarah Feeney, and Niko Keenan; as well as many nieces and nephews, extended family, and friends.
